The only two time state qualifier in school history,
Adam Duke would be on the short list of Midview’s finest wrestlers.
Coached by Phil Gregor, the 98lb. freshman posted a
16-7 record including a first at the Vermilion tournament and a
second at the Lorain County Conference Tournament and a third at the
Lorain County All-Stars Tournament.
A new season and the same weight class brought first
place finishes at the Columbia, Erie Shore Conference and County All
Stars tournaments. A third at the prestigious Brunswick and District
tournaments bumped his sophomore record to 21-4-1.
Moving up to 103 pounds as a junior, Adam’s record
improved as expected, placing first in the Valley Forge, Brunswick,
Columbia and Erie Shore Conference tournaments. After finishing
second at the sectional tournament, he placed first at the District
Tournament in Mentor often referred to as “the meat grinder”.
Finishing fourth at State, he culminated a 31-3 record with a first
at the County All-Star tournament. As a senior, Adam wrestled in the
112 pound weight class and finished fourth in the Brunswick
tournament and recorded first place finishes at the Valley Forge,
Columbia and Erie Shore conference tournaments. In the Erie Shore
conference tournament, he defeated Southview’s Uland Robinson to
become one of only two three time Conference Champions. He then
proceeded to breeze through the sectional and district tournaments
and qualified for the state tournament for the second time, after
which he placed first in the Greater Cleveland East/West All Star
tournament. His 23-4-1 record his senior year and 91-18-2 for his
career helped to earn him a full scholarship to Eastern Michigan
University where he wrestled every year and his seven second pin in
one match was the fastest in school history.
