A
three-sport star at Midview High School from 1977 to 1980, Jane Rader
excelled in basketball, track and volleyball. She was unanimously
selected All-Lakeland Conference in basketball for three straight
years and was named to the AAA Sectional Tournament Team, and was its
MVP her junior and senior years. She led the area in scoring with 19.7
points per game as a junior and was the Lakeland Conference’s top
scorer (21.2 PPG) and rebounder (17.5 RPG), her senior year.
Track was another sport to Jane’s liking as she set
school, conference and county records in the discus, high jump and
shot put. She set a Lorain County Pentathlon high jump record and
qualified for three events at the Ohio State Track meet. She placed in
the high jump and the discus in both her junior and senior years.
As outstanding as she was in basketball and track,
it was volleyball that would provide her with her greatest
achievements. Jane was a unanimous pick for the Lakeland Conference
All-Star Volleyball Team her junior and senior years and was chosen
MVP at the Strongsville invitational and would have surely been picked
for All-Ohio honors had they existed at that time. Many colleges took
note of Jane’s athletic prowess and she was heavily recruited for all
three sports, but chose to play Volleyball at Ohio State, and was the
first area female athlete to receive a full athletic scholarship to a
Big 10 school.
Jane was a four-year starter for the Buckeyes and
received the Coaches Award her junior year. She was a co-captain her
senior year and was named to the All Tourney Team at the prestigious
Louisiana State Tournament.
One of the finest all around athletes to ever attend
Midview High School, Jane set records and attained levels of
excellence that will stand the test of time.
Jane is currently the head volleyball coach at the
Newark Campus of OSU and lives in Newark with her husband, Tom and
their three children, Cory, Erin and Anne.
